Hey there, it's Evangeline right here at etrailer. And today we're gonna be taking a look at the car pod, waterproof roof-mounted cargo bag. This is gonna be 15 cubic feet large, and we'll see how it fits here on our 2021 Nissan Murano. If you need some extra cargo space, and maybe you don't have a hitch receiver on your Murano yet and you don't have a roof rack, well this is gonna be a solution for you. It's just a bag that allows you to carry around a lot of cargo. 15 cubic feet is a lot of space for a lot of things, but because of how it is shaped, it's designed to still protect your cargo from the elements more than just a roof basket would.

This can fit on the naked roof of your Murano, but if you do have a roof rack installed on your vehicle, it will fit in between those crossbars as well. What we have here is no roof rack, so, the way it works is the straps go around the bag. We have six straps total. Plus, these straps have an anchor hook. So the anchor hook fits into your door, under or inside your weather strip.

While it looks like it does take up some space, it fits flush enough that you can slam your door on it easily and quickly. As for how it sits on the roof, the dimensions of the bag is gonna be 43 inches long by 33 inches wide, and technically it sits 18 inches tall. But you can see here, we have taller items in the middle, smaller items around the bag. And you're not as hard fixed to a dimension, like you would with a roof box. A bag has a little bit more wiggle room for your objects of different sizes.

Helpful if you have large duffle bags and maybe your smaller suitcases. As for the weight, though, that's dependent on the Nissan Murano roof weight capacity. Most roof racks for this vehicle can carry up to 165 pounds. However, that's for a roof rack mounted to the rails. The actual roof weight, well, you are gonna have to use your best judgment for evenly distributing the weight and making sure it's not too heavy, where you're causing your roof to sink in.

Once you have your cargo in, though, you do have all these straps holding it down, cinching it in. And, you have some different features protecting your cargo from the elements. This is made of a 600 gram tarpaulin, which is very heavy duty. You also have a zipper, that goes around three sides of the bag. (Velcro crackling) The zipper is protected by covered seams, as well as a lip of fabric that goes over the zipper, and is secured into these hook and loop strips. So a lot of things working together for a more waterproof experience, and protecting your cargo from rainstorms and from snow. As for how it fits on the roof, (door slams) when you do have it loaded up, what I like to do is I like to put the cargo in the bag and then put the bag on the roof. Fortunately, the Murano isn't a super tall vehicle, so if you're taller than me, and or if you have friends, this might be pretty easy to do, compared to larger vehicles. Since it doesn't sit that long, you're not worried about any clearance issues in the front. You're still able to open up the hatch. As long as you have it lined up in the door jams, where you can still fit the anchor points, then you're good to go. So it's safe to say that this is a fit for your Nissan Murano, if you want to add extra cargo space. Maybe you have a long road trip coming up, or maybe you're moving from an apartment or you're going off to college. This is a lot of cargo space, though. If you're just on your own, and you only have a couple duffel bags, definitely try to get a roof bag that is on the smaller side. More space means more that can move around and more wind drag and wind noise. So an alternative for you would be the Rightline Gear Sport junior, which is only 10 cubic feet in space. Much smaller than this, but that one also clips into the doors.
