Recommendation on a Roof Basket for a 2008 Toyota 4Runner with Factory Rails and Crossbars.
Question:
Can you make some suggestions on roof baskets to fit a 2008 Toyota 4Runner Limited with standard side and cross rails. Interested in carrying the spare tire and other gear for a very long road trip.

Yakima has the LoadWarrior Roof Rack cargo Basket # Y07070 that I recommend for your 2008 Toyota 4 Runner. The Yakima rack is constructed of strong steel for durability and weighs just 25 lbs. The Yakima LoadWarrior cargo basket will work with a crossbar spread between 24 to 32 inches measured center to center of the crossbars..
I also recommend Yakima's Spare Tire Carrier for Yakima Roof Rack Cargo Baskets # Y07076 and a cargo net # Y07072. The spare tire carrier will help secure a spare to the rack to prevent the tire form moving in transit or during a sudden stop.
However there are a couple things you need to keep in mind when shopping for a cargo basket.
According to the Toyota Owner's Manual for a 2008 4 Runner, the maximum storage weight capacity on the roof is 120 lbs. When purchasing a roof top cargo accessory you need keep in mind not only the weight of the cargo you will be hauling, but also figure in the weight of the cargo accessory into the total weight of what will be place on the roof racks.
The Yakima LoadWarrior is one of our lightest cargo basket we carry weighing 25 lbs.The Yakima spare tire carrier weighs 6.5 lbs. You will need to add these weights to the the weight of the spare and the cargo you plan to haul to get your total roof cargo weight. If this number does not exceed the 120 lbs limit set by Toyota, you can probably store the spare tire in this cargo basket.
I have attached a link to a help article on roof cargo accessories that will give you more information.
