Recommended Axle With 5 On 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern Idler Hubs And Wheels

Question:

Thanks for the info. Just two more generic question. The axle you recommend is good for up to 12 inch wheels. What determines that? Could I put a 13 inch wheel on it?

I contacted Harbor Freight's tech services line regarding your Haul Master Trailer. Your trailer may have an odd size axle, so the industry standard size parts would not be compatible. Their tech services can't give me the information to help you, so I would need you to pull your hub and give me the bearing number on it for me to tell you if we can change the hubs out for 5 lug or not.

Can you give me a recommendation to replace the axle and upgrade the hubs to 5 lugs?

To replace your axle and hubs, I recommend the Dexter Idler Trailer Axle w/ Hubs - EZ-Lube - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 60" Long - 2,200 lbs, # 20545I-EZ-60-10. This will give you the 60 inch axle, the idler hubs with the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, and the bearings, grease seals, and even has the EZ-Lube spindles with built-in grease zerks for simple lubrication. If you need wheels for your trailer with the matching bolt pattern that are the 4.8 x 12 inch replacements. The upgraded wheel I recommend is the Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel - 12" x 4" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - White Powder Coat, # AM20132. There are many other style options available in this size. I've attached the link for you. The upgraded wheel and tire combination I recommend is the Kenda 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" White Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range C, # AM30620. If you are interested in an aluminum wheel, then I recommend the # AM30679. You may want to consider an extra wheel and tire for a spare.

You cannot put a 13 inch wheel on that particular hub # 20545I-EZ-60-10. The hub, bearings, and races are different. If you want to go with 13 inch wheels, I recommend the Dexter Trailer Idler Axle w/ Hubs - EZ-Lube - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 60" Long - 2,200 lbs, # 20545I-EZ-60-15. This axle will allow from 12 to 15 inch wheels. For 13 inch wheels, I recommend the Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire with 13" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D, # AM31233. You will want to make sure if you upgrade your wheel size that you have adequate clearance with your fenders.
