Recommended Winch To Load 2000-lb Raft On 14 X 8 Trailer
Question:
I have a 2001 Toyota Tundra, a 14x8foot raft trailer, and a 2000 lb+ expedition raft. I want to purchase an electric winch. Our raft is an 18foot expedition set-up and rigged for month long trips on the Grand Canyon. We winch the raft fully loaded with gear so it is extremely heavy over 2,000 lbs at times. Occasionally we will pull two rafts up at once but the second raft will be less than 1,000 lbs. This winch will probably operate 12 times a year. I want it to be strong, relatively fast, relatively quiet, and I think it makes sense to just have it wired directly to the truck vs having its own battery but Im open to suggestions. Do you have recommendations for me?

The winch you came from, part # BDW15020 would work great for the raft and trailer you said you have. The line pull for this winch is 10.6-ft per minute when pulling 2,000-lbs. This has a 7/32-inch wire rope that is 55.7 ft long and this winch has a 1.8-hp motor. If you want a wireless remote you can use up to 45-ft away I recommend part # BDW20212.
Another winch I recommend for your trailer and raft is the Bulldog utility Winch, part # BDW15013. This winch has a 3,500-lb capacity. This winch has a line speed of about 7.2 ft per minute at 2000-lbs and this winch has a 4.8 mm synthetic rope that is 50-ft long. The winch comes with a hand-held controller and also features an automatic load-holding mechanical brake. We also have a wireless controller for the winch. It is part # BDW20156.
You want to make sure you have a safe and secure location to mount the winch. The winch comes with 6-ft 6-gauge wires to hook up to a 12V battery. If you need longer cables to connect to a battery source I recommend part # BDW20304, which are 12-ft long.
For a longer wiring kit you can use to run the winch from your Tundra battery I recommend part # BDW20026. This wiring kit has 24-ft of wire and included a quick connect. One end of the connector attaches to the wiring from the truck and the other attaches to the winch wiring.
