Parts Needed To Install Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller # 90195 On A 1998 Ford F-150 With Factory 4-Way

Question:

I need someone to verify an install for me if they could. I have a 98 F150 XLT with a factory tow package and 4 pin plug. I need to set it up for a toy hauler, so here is what Ive picked out. 90195-3035P Brake Controller 118242 Adapter plug Kit PK12711U Bracket. Would be the proper set up? Does the 118242 come with the fuse/relay for the fuse block under the hood?

It sounds like you have done a good job in choosing the correct items for installing a brake controller on your 1998 Ford F-150 XLT with factory tow package. Everything you have chosen is the correct part for your application.

The Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller # 90195 and the Ford Adapter # 3035-P is a good choice for your vehicle. The P3 brake controller is a proportional brake controller which means it will only activate when you apply the brakes on the tow vehicle. It has a motion sensing device that will know how fast the tow vehicle is stopping and applies power to the trailer brakes, but it is only activated when the brake pedal is stepped on.

The # 3035-P Ford Wiring Adapter will plug into the back of your brake controller and the other end will plug into the factory brake controller port located under the dash.

The Tow Ready Wiring Harness # 118242 will install in-line with your factory wiring harness and allow you to keep your 4-way connector on the rear of your vehicle. It will include the relays and fuses that are needed to activate your towing system. This harness will plug into your factory connector that is located on the drivers side between the back tires and the end of the truck bed. I am sending a picture of where the factory connector is located on your vehicle.

The Pollak Mounting Bracket # PK12711U will work with the # 118242 wiring harness.

I am sending links to the instructions on the brake controller, Ford adapter, and the wiring harness. Also, I am sending a video link of all of the parts being installed on a 2001 Ford F-150.
