Recommended Trailer Tire for Fifth Wheel Trailer that Weighs 15,500 Lbs

Question:

I am considering buying a used 5th wheel. The dealer tells me that the appropriate load range for the tires is determined by subtracting the pin weight from the gross loaded weight. Is this correct? 15,500 - 2,000 = 13,500 Thanks

I wouldn't recommend subtracting the pin weight of the trailer from the total weight to get what you would need as the tire capacity.

Instead you would want to use the entire weight of the trailer divided by the amount of tires the trailer has to determine what each tire capacity you would need.

Since you referenced a ST235/85R16 tire I would instead recommend the Taskmaster Tire part # TTWPRG235R16. This has the needed capacity as it has a 4,400 lb capacity at 110 psi and then also has an 81 mph speed rating which is higher than most trailer tires that are only rated for 65 miles per hour.
