Can a Sidewinder be Used with Pullrite SuperGlide Hitch in a 2016 Toyota Tundra with 5-1/2 Foot Bed

Question:

2016 Tundra, 5foot8inch bed, Coachman Chaparral 2012, 5th wheel Lipp1621 Pin Box Hitch is a Pullrite 3100 Superglide slides 22 Swings to 90 degrees fine ON LEVEL GROUND. If truck is on the slightest higher plane, sloping uphill little as 12-14, the trailer hits the cab corner! It does not allow the Superglide to slide a full 22inch still has 10inch to go but BOOM youve hit the cab! Would the Reese Air Ride Extended pin box give more clearance?

A regular air ride pin box doesn't give you any additional clearance but a Sidewinder does. It will move the pivot point of the trailer back 22 inches so that it is always turning 22 inches back. The only problem is that a Sidewinder cannot be used with a SuperGlide hitch since that hitch slides automatically. If you can lock out the SuperGlide to keep it from sliding it could work but Reese still does not recommend it.

So you could change the hitch but your SuperGlide is the standard design meaning that it does not mount in industry standard above the bed rails. That means that you would also have to replace the installation kit.

If you want to explore this option you can use installation kit # RP50084-58 and hitch # RP30047 on your 2016 Toyota Tundra with 5-1/2 foot bed. Then for a Sidewinder you would use # RP34FR rated for 16,000 pounds for the Lippert 1621 pin box. With this set up the trailer will always pivot 22 inches back from the center of the hitch.
