Adding a Brake Controller to a 2015 Toyota RAV4 XLE
Question:
I am installing a 2inch hitch and wiring harness to my RAV 4 to tow a cargo trailer. Do you recommend a brake controller for this size vehicle? I dont plan to tow more than the manufacturer recommended weight.

Expert Reply:
The 2015 Toyota RAV4 is rated to tow up to 1,500 pounds. If the trailer does not have brakes or if it has brakes and they are not used then the maximum trailer weight it can do is reduced to 1,000 pounds. So to get to the maximum that the vehicle can tow using brakes is the way to go.
To add a brake controller the vehicle will need to have a 7-Way trailer connector. First you would start with a 4-Way (if the vehicle does not already have one) # 118578. Then to add the 7-Way use # ETBC7. I have included links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation for you.
For a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable.
