How Is Exhaust of Vehicle Usually Supported When Lowered to Install Trailer Hitch

Question:

I wish there was a video to view, but cant currently find any. Im concerned about removing rubber exhaust hangers and supporting the exhaust. Can you provide examples of how to support the exhaust?

Lowering exhaust to install a hitch is a pretty standard install step. It's not too hard to do in most cases. It just requires you to pry the exhaust hangers off of the vehicles so that it can be lowered.

Our installers routinely use a ratchet strap to provide support to the exhaust once it is removed from the exhaust hangers. The purpose of the strap is to control the descent of the exhaust so it does not fall too rapidly and damage something. The exhaust hangers are very easy to remove, simply spray the metal hanger that passes through them with WD40 or some other spray lubricant. In a pinch, you can use some liquid dish washing detergent and water. The hangers will easily pry off the mounting studs.

I attached a hitch install video for a different vehicle that starts out with the exhaust being lowered for you to check out as well.
