Recommended Fit and Compatibility of Components for Hauling a Trailer with a 2005 Honda CR-V
Question:
Hello. I have a 2005 Honda CR-V, AWD. Occasionally, Id like to rent a light-duty trailer to haul lumber and landscaping materials around. Here are the products I ended up selecting. Do they all work together? Do you have suggestions for improvements or additional products? Thanks! I checked out all the parts you listed ( # 13535, # 118336, # C45030, # 63845, and # C21500) and good news they will all work together.
I do have a few suggestions for you though. I would instead suggest the Draw-Tite hitch # 75690 over the Curt hitch because if you decide to transport anything like a bike rack or cargo carrier in the future you will need to use a stabilization strap # 18050 per Curt's warranty and with the Draw-Tite hitch you won't.
Next suggestion is we offer a Curt ball mount kit # C45036 that has almost the exact same specs at the parts you listed with the ball pre-mounted in the drop position, this ball mount only has a 2 inch drop compared to the 2-1/4 inch drop you were looking at. Which brings me to my next suggestion; ball mounts. The best way to determine the correct ball mount for your vehicle and trailer is to measure. See linked Help Article. What we already know is the installed hitch height of the Curt # 13535 15-1/4 inches and with the Draw-Tite # 75690 its 14-3/4 inches. The best rise or drop ball mount will be determined if you know the rented trailer's height as well.
I have linked all the above mentioned products as well as installation videos for your viewing and purchasing convenience.
