Will Curt Class V Hitch Fit in Place of Class III Hitch on a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500

Question:

I bought the pickup with a 6000 lb trailer weight curt hitch installed. I want to put a 16000 lb hitch on the pickup to pull my deckover. Will this hitch bolt in place of the other one?

A 6,000 pound hitch does seem a bit light for a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500. I looked up the specs on that truck and found that it has a towing capacity of 8,700 to 9,100 pounds gross trailer weight depending on how the truck is equipped. I urge you to consult your owner's manual for towing information for your specific model.

Curt trailer hitch # C15318 does fit in place of the hitch you have now. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation for you.

Since this hitch is rated higher than the one you have now you may also need a different ball mount that is rated higher. I have included a link to our ball mount main page and a link to our help article on choosing a ball mount.
