1996 Dodge Ram Pickup

I installed this on my 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 dually (club cab, long bed) after my factory hitch started to crack. This is the one you want if your doing heavy loads. Very Heavy duty and much better than the factory hitch receiver. I run a powersport business and always have 12k+ loads on my trucks. Curt is the manufacturer I trust.

Installation was pretty easy, the longest part for me was removing the old rusted bolts on my truck. It came with new hardware, which was nice. Overall, I would highly recommend this hitch receiver.

Thank you, etrailer for the lighting fast shipping of this product. It's greatly appreciated.

by:
Ram 2500

Installation was average, Quality is heavy duty and well put together. I had to use larger connecting hardware because of the wider material where the safety hooks attached. Over all I would recommend and buy again. Personal note, this size/rating hitch should be on all 2500 and especially 3500-1 ton trucks, we all load heavy at some time.

by:

I like the hitch; it is heavy duty the only down fall is the chain loops are too wide for my smaller trailers chain hooks just have to buy some shackles.. E Trailer is awesome would highly recommend them!

by:

Product is just as described, super easy installation, the only fight there was was a slightly misaligned hole, but if you have a lady foot pry bar and a small hammer the install is still very straightforward, installation took just over half an hour. Would recommend!

Chrysler

We pull a new 33ft RV with a GVWR of 9000 lbs and an advertised tongue weight of 795 lbs. In reality the tongue weight is more like 1000 lbs. because the RV manufacturers do not measure the factory tongue weight with full propane tanks and a battery. I bought a Sherline 2000 tongue weight scale and my tongue weight came in just shy of 1200 lbs. with the RV loaded for take off.
My old Chrysler factory hitch receiver was rated at 1000 tongue weight thus the need for a new hitch receiver to handle the load of the RV.

Got the new receiver C15318. I missed the part about maybe not fitting a roll down rear factory bumper. The new receiver will not fit in the same bolting place as the old 1000 factory receiver. I had to set it back 1.5 inches so it would miss the rear bumper. There were enough factory holes in the frame to match the front and rear bolt holes but I had to drill the hole in the middle.

It all worked out fine because the new hitch receiver is within 1/8 of an inch of where the old factory receiver sat under the bumper.

Sorry I had to place my electric 7 way RV plug holder over your logo, but I think you'll understand.

Good product, heavy, have no worry now towing our RV.

2015 Nissan Leaf

Awesome hitch, what can I say. It fit perfect, went on without any drilling, and is rated for way more than the stock hitch which my truck came with. I tried a reese towerpower receiver which was supposed to fit my truck but it was too wide to fit between the leaf spring hanger and the bend in the frame so it was useless. This one was a direct bolt on and was on my truck in about 15 minutes. Looks great and I'm glad to have to higher towing capacity. I overloaded my stock hitch a few too many times and it ended up getting a small crack due to the excess weight and age. Couldn't be happier with the shipping as well , it was at my door within 3 days.

1996 Dodge Ram Pickup

Had the stock 10,000lb hitch on my 96' Dodge that I knew I was overloading a little. Bought this Class V which took an hour to change out. No drilling just remove and replace hitch with heavier bolts provided. This is a much heavier hitch than the stock hitch and will serve my 14,000 Max GVW trailer much safer. After removing stock hitch, I looked it over and found it was cracking at the rear bolt. Was only a matter of time before it failed. Glad it gone to the junk yard.

Great product for a reasonable price.

by:
1997 Dodge Ram Pickup

This hitch is a perfect fit. It comes with excellent grade 8 hardware. The packaging was excellent and clever. It took me about a half hour to install.

by:
2001 Dodge Ram Pickup

All the hardware to mount it was included, installation instructions were clear, and it installed per instructions. I installed it on a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 with a short bed which only uses 3 of the 4 mounting points on each side plate which was indicated per instructions.

A year latter, its still working great. I re-torqued all the bolts after my first use, a 2000 mile tow, and everything was still tight.

by:

Best constructed frame mounted hitch I’ve ever owned.. I installed it by myself and it fit like a glove. It’s way better than the bumper hitch I had before because of the added safety and stability.

by:

Prompt shipping.
Well built hitch.
The
hitch was shipped in thin cardboard box which UPS easily destroyed.
Of course it didn't hurt the hitch but, the electrical hitch connector that I ordered at the same time was shipped in the same box. It's packaging was broken and we had to search the UPS truck to find all the parts. Would have been better to ship the smaller fragile parts in another box.
Thanks!

by:

Love it. Heavy duty and then some! Easy install. Works as advertised. We'll worth the money.

by:

Received the hitch and it is very heavy duty. Arrived in perfect condition, all moutning harware and torque specs. Mounted right up no problem. Took longer to get the old off than the new on. I have not towed with htis yet but have no doubt it will do well and hold more weight than the truck can take.
Thank you

by:
1998 Dodge Ram Pickup

Built like it was designed to pull a load, no cheesy lightweight metal. This hitch is very well put together with good looking welds and secure mounting design. I regularly pull a dump trailer with the load being right at the hitches capacity and have not had any issues with anything bending or even looking like it may be stressed.

by:
1994 Dodge Ram Pickup

Solid , reliable and fit like a glove.
Great
that you can replace part for a old work horse. 1994 Ram with a Cummins??

by:

My receiver hitch is strong and sturdy. The only thing I do not like is the loops for trailer safety chains. The steel is too wide to get most hooks on the chain to latch very securely.

by:
2001 Dodge Ram Pickup

Hitch appears well made. However, once this 70 years old man got the hitch up to connect it to the truck, I saw that the holes didn't match up. I ordered this hitch because it said it fit my 2001 Dodge truck with NO drilling.I could have ordered a less expensive hitch if I had wanted to drill. VERY disappointed in the fit.

Thank you for your review. Depending on how off the hitch is from the bolt holes, it sounds like it is slightly flexed. I have attached a help article with tips on how to fix this. If it is more than a half inch off then please call us at 800-298-1624.

by:
2001 Dodge Ram Pickup

Installed on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500. Much heavier duty than OEM hitch. Holes lined up with no drilling but difficult to install by yourself because it's heavy and awkward to handle. On my truck I had to relocate the 7 pin plug becuase it was welded onto factory hitch. I've used it to tow a heave trailer and tractor with no issue so far.

by:

Shopping online was very intuitive and product alignment was accurate. The installation instructions, wiring harness, and required hardware were also the correct items and reference material for my make and model. The product itself is a very solid Hitch and has been reliable.

by:
1995 Dodge Ram Pickup

My OEM class IV hitch developed cracks, so I bought this one (Curt 15318) to replace it. Easy bolt on (no drilling needed), but didn't have electrical connector mounting bracket that the OEM had.
Well made, heavy (60 lbs.). Easy installation (40 min), Rated as class V hitch (with 2" receiver). Fits '95 Dodge Ram 2500 V10 4x4.

by:

Excellent hitch I tow a 12,000#+ boat and trailer with load levelers and 1,200# tongue weight its holding up perfect

by:
1998 Dodge Ram Pickup

Exact fit for factory replacement on my dodge truck. It was easy to install (easier with two people). BE SURE TO RE TORQUE THE BOLTS AFTER FIRST USE. So far it has been a good hitch for me.

  • Does Curt Hitch C15318 Fit 2001 Dodge Ram Like Stock Hitch
The Curt hitch part # C15318 that you referenced is going to put the hitch tube at the same height and location as the stock hitch of your 2001 Ram 2500. It's hard to say for certain if the hitch will clear the bumper you have since it's never been tested but it should fit just fine based on what you've done to it.

  • Will Curt Class V Hitch Fit in Place of Class III Hitch on a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500
A 6,000 pound hitch does seem a bit light for a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500. I looked up the specs on that truck and found that it has a towing capacity of 8,700 to 9,100 pounds gross trailer weight depending on how the truck is equipped. I urge you to consult your owner's manual for towing information for your specific model. Curt trailer hitch # C15318 does fit in place of the hitch you have now. The highest capacity hitch available for your Ram would be the Draw-Tite Class V, part # 45010. The hitch has a 1200 lb tongue weight/ 12,000 lb towing capacity. Due to differences at the rear of the frame members, the Curt Class V hitch you mentioned will not fit your 2002 Ram with the 8 foot bed, which I have confirmed with Curt. I have linked you to the install instructions for the # 45010 hitch.

Sorry to hear about your fitment issue! From the looks of your order with us, you bought the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V XD - 2" # C15318. This model is confirmed to fit some 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 models. It will not fit other submodels of Ram pickups for that year. Also, the hitch does not fit Sport models with dual exhaust. It also is only compatible with 6-1/2 foot beds with the standard or step bumper. If you have a 2001 Ram that fits the compatibility criteria,...

Having a dually isn't going to factor into the fit, as the hitches fit both single and dual rear wheel models. So long as you have a standard or step bumper, the 2 inch trailer hitch that I can confirm fits your 1995 Dodge Ram 3500 dually is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15318. • Recommended No-Drill Trailer Hitch for a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500
For your 1997 Dodge Ram 2500, I recommend using the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C15318 which offers a no-drill installation on most and towing capacity up to 16,000 lbs. In order to be sure no drilling is required for you, you will want to take a peek under the truck on the rear sections of the frame rail.
