To wire the 4-Way round to 7-Way blade wiring adapter, item # 37185, on your 1989 GMC CK series pickup you will need to plug the existing 4-Way connector into the 4-way connector provided at the rear of the # 37185 connector and then hard wire the remaining 4 wires. If you do not have an existing 4-Way connector you will need to install one with the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector, item # 118315.
The white wire is the ground wire and should be connected to a suitable, clean, rust and corrosion free part of the vehicle chassis. The purple or yellow wire should be connected to the reverse light circuit behind one of the vehicle tail lights. Use a circuit tester, item # PTW2993, to find the correct wire for reverse lights.
The black wire is ran forward to a point under the hood where a circuit breaker can be mounted. Use of 10 gauge wire, item # 10-2-1, and a 40 amp circuit breaker, item # PK54540, is recommended. Attach the black wire to the circuit breaker and then run another length of black wire to the vehicles positive battery post.
Finally the blue wire exiting the adapter is ran forward to the blue wire exiting the rear of the brake controller, if a brake controller is installed on the vehicle. If a brake controller is not installed the blue wire can be tied up out of the way. The white wire in the # 10-2-1 jacketed wire is normally used, but a separate wire. # 10-1-1 can be ran if needed.
There are a few items that will help with this installation. quick splices, item # SWC501915-1, Ring Terminals, item # 44-5310A, and Electrical Tape, item # BT66, will be needed. We have a complete 7 and 4-Way wiring kit, item # ETBC7, available for this installation, and directions are linked below.
