Troubleshooting 4-Pole Wiring Harness Installation in 2011 Lexus RX 350
Question:
Hi, I installed the Curt wiring harness on my 2011 Lexus RX 350 and it worked fine but stopped working after a while. I checked the fuse under hood and disconnected the harness to check for power from factory pigtail ,no power still. Any thoughts ?

Expert Reply:
Curt 4-pole wiring harness # 56083, which fits your factory-tow-package-equipped 2011 Lexus RX 350, uses a square OEM connector to join the car's wiring. If your fuse is good then there may be a corrosion problem within the connectors. Disconnect the harness and check all contacts for signs of discoloration (even slight green or white discoloration can indicate corrosion that could cause a problem). Clean contacts as needed with a spray-on electrical contact cleaner.
Since your fuse is not blown, you may have a corrosion problem in the fuse holder. Make sure those contacts are clean as you re-install a new fuse. Fine (500-grit) sandpaper can help with cleaning off those surfaces and dielectric grease like # 11755 can help prevent moisture from causing further corrosion in the future. After you clean things up and get the harness working you might apply some grease to protect those connections.
If there is no issue at the fuse or OEM connector then there may be damage to some of the car's internal wiring that you might refer to a qualified Lexus repair technician.
