Fit and Installation of Wiring Harness, Trailer Hitch, and Bike Rack for 2008 Toyota Sienna

Question:

I am looking for a class III hitch for a 2008 toyota sienna. Primary use will be for a bike rack, but might want to pull a small trailer at times as well. The rack will be a swing away type rack like a Yakima SwingDaddy, so more clearance from the back hatch would be better. I can bolt on the receiver, but Im not sure how easy it would be to do the wiring harness for towing the trailer? Any suggestions?

The wiring harness I recommend for your 2008 Toyota Sienna is the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118304. I recommend this custom wiring harness because it will offer the simplest installation. The installation for this wiring harness will not require you to cut or splice into any wires, as the custom fit harness plugs into the vehicle's wiring system behind the Sienna's taillights.

I have attached an installation video of the # 118304 wiring harness on a similar Sienna for you to see the installation process. The installation instructions are also attached. The video and instructions will help you decide if this installation is something you feel comfortable performing. If you still need a Class III trailer hitch for your 2008 Sienna, the trailer hitch that is confirmed to fit and will offer you the greatest clearance from the rear hatch is the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13105. For a hitch accessory to clear the bumper with this hitch installed, a minimum of 3-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole is required. This distance is longer when using the Draw-Tite hitch for your Sienna. I've attached a photo of the Curt's clearance measurement from you, as well as an installation video.

The Yakima Swing Daddy # Y02464 will work well with the Curt hitch on your Sienna. From the center of the hitch pin hole, the closest knob at the base of the Swing Daddy is 6 inches. With nearly 3 inches from the back bumper, you will have plenty of clearance to loosen this knob in order to swing the bike rack out. I've attached a review video for the Swing Daddy on a similar van for you.

If you plan on carrying any women's or children's bike that lack the traditional top frame bar, such as a men's bike would have, I recommend a bike adapter bar, like # UB01. A bike adapter bar will make it easier to mount the bikes and allow you to secure the bikes level on the rack. I've attached a review video of the # UB01 adapter for you as well.
