Question:

I have your Curt Hitch with proper wiring and a Tekonsha brake controller. What WD hitch would you recommend and what if any sway control. Towing a 2000# dry wt 3500# Loaded with 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0 w/3500# towing capacity

First of all, I'd confirm your Santa Fe can handle a 3500 lb trailer. I tried unsuccessfully to determine the towing capacity of your vehicle online. Keep in mind that the vehicle's capacity is the final word when it comes to the capacity of the trailer you can pull. A weight distribution system will NOT allow you to pull more than what the tow vehicle is rated for.

To choose a weight distribution system, you'll need to first determine the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer. To that figure, add the weight of any gear stowed in the cargo area of the Santa Fe behind the rear axle. I've linked to an FAQ article that explains how to do this. These combined figures represent the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your set-up. The TTW of your trailer should fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the weight distribution system you choose.

At 3500 lbs loaded, the tongue weight will typically range from 10 to 15 percent of the loaded trailer weight, which would place it between 350 and 525 lbs. The Reese # RP66540 along with the # 83660 friction sway control. This solution would be effective on trailers with a 200-600 lb fully loaded tongue weight with minor to moderate sway problems. This system includes the weight distributing shank, but the # A-90 (for 2 inch) or # 19286 (for 2-5/16 inch) trailer ball.

The Fastway # FA92-00-0600 is rated for the same trailer tongue weight range as the Pro Series system mentioned above, but has a more effective sway control function for more severe sway. The shank is provided, but for a 2 inch ball you'll need part # EQ91-00-6080 or # EQ91-00-6100 for a 2-5/16 inch ball. Due to the tight fit of the trailer ball, a thin wall socket like # ALL643216 is recommended.
