How to Disconnect Locking Tabs on OEM Wiring Harness on 2004 Ford F-350 Diesel Crew Cab
Question:
I have a Ford F350 Diesel crew cab larriet 2004 model year. I wish to install a new wiring harness so I can plug in my camper running lights at the front of the bed. I am unable to unplug existing plug at the rear bumper so I can install the proper harness. How do you release the catch on the plug?

Expert Reply:
If the OEM wiring harness on your 2004 Ford F-350 Diesel Crew Cab uses square connectors like those on Hopkins harness # 40167 you will need to press in the release tabs in order to disconnect the existing harness.
The tab is inside the small channel on the fastener. If you refer to the linked video at the 1:35 mark you will be able to see the tab engage as our technician makes the connection. If the plastic fasteners are factory original, then they may well be less flexible than when new and some pressure may be needed to allow the connectors to separate.
