205/75-14 Trailer Tire Recommendation with Higher Speed Rating for Highway Use

Question:

i have to pull a cargo trailer with a gross weight max of 7000lbs. I had two brand new trailer tires blow within 60 miles of each other on the same side. They were c load rated. Ive no clue on the speed rating. Both blew between 70 and 80mph. Tires had about 1000 miles on them. I am trying to figure out why they are failing and how to prevent it. The carcass flop is damaging the trailer. I travel mainly the interstates and not a lot of local travel.

Most trailer tires are only rated at 65 mph, but the brand Taskmaster has quite a few tires that are rated for up to 81 mph. Whenever available that is what I recommend for people. Exceeding the speed rating for a tire is a great way to cause it to fail prematurely.

For a 205/75-14 tire that has a 81 mph speed rating I would recommend the # TR20515D. This is a Load Range D tire with a 2,150-lb maximum load at 65 psi. Always keep the max tire pressure in a trailer tire to ensure that you get the full capacity out of it.
