Ratchet Straps to Secure Zero Turn Mower to Trailer

Question:

I have a small lawn cutting business and need some Tie down straps. I have a JD 60inch zero turn mower and a 12foot Holmes trailer with d rings at each corner. The mower weighs a little under 1400 lbs. The company I purchased the trailer from said I should purchase 10 ft straps and a was thinking of Erickson EM34416 2 x 10 straps. Do you think this is a good choice? Thanks

The Erickson # EM34416 Ratchet Straps you mentioned would be ideal. Each strap has a 3300 lb break strength or a 1100 lb safe working load limit. When both straps are used at the same time, there's plenty of capacity for your 1400 lb mower.

I've used a shorter version of these straps in the past to secure some PWC's to the trailer, and they worked perfectly.

You'll want to make sure that a 10 foot length will be long enough. Load the mower on the trailer, and have a helper hold the end of the measuring tape and the tie-down. Route the tape the same way as you'd run the strap until you get to the other D-ring, making sure that the distance isn't greater than 10 feet. If it is, we'll need to look at a different strap.

Erickson offers a 15 foot strap with a 1300 lb working load limit, part # EM51330. These straps are sold individually, not as a set of two.
