Cushioned Pin Box to Reduce Chucking and Jarring When Towing 2011 Heartland 5th Wheel

Question:

I have a 2011 Heartland Elkridge 5th wheel pulled with a 2006 Dodge 3500, 6-1/2 ft. bed. I have a Curt 28K slider hitch and experience a bit of chucking that I would love to get rid of. My question is what pin box would help reduce some of this? I realize the slider hitch does not help matters, would a cushioning pin box help? Thanks.

A cushioned pin box can help reduce some of the chucking and jarring you feel when pulling your Heartland trailer. Cushioned pin boxes like the Trailair Air Ride # LC179879 that you referenced have an adjustable internal air bag and shock absorber that work together to limit both lateral chucking and vertical jarring.

Replacement pin boxes are selected based on the original pin box maker and part number. The unit you referenced is a direct bolt-on replacement for a Lippert 0719.

The linked article includes information on cushioned pin boxes like the Trailair and the linked page will show you all cushioned pin boxes we offer. You can usually find your pin box brand and part number on a sticker on the driver's side of the box. With that you can then check the linked page for a cushioned pin box that fits in place of yours. Just click on your pin box number to see suitable replacements.

For example, for the popular Lippert 1621 and 1621HD pin boxes we offer the 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Air Ride Coupler # 5AB-E1621-610. Installation is shown in the linked video.
