How to Add Gooseneck Wiring to 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Without Factory Wiring Harness
Question:
My Dodge does NOT come with a factory wiring harness. What exactly do I need to install a gooseneck wiring adapter in the sidewall of my bed and a brake controller? And, I have checked behind the emergency brake to look for the blue connector. Not there..

If your 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 has no type of factory trailer wiring at all then you'll need first to install a 4-pole harness like # 118329. This is a simple plug-in harness that installs at your tail light assemblies with no cutting or splicing of wires.
You'll then convert that to a 7-way blade type RV socket using our # ETBC7 trailer brake controller installation kit. This kit includes a 7-way that plugs in to the 4-pole. The extra circuits will be connected using the supplied wiring, connectors and circuit breakers. An installation video and article are linked for you.
Once you have this bumper-mounted 7-way in place you can use harness extension # C56080 which will plug in at the 7-way to bring those wiring functions up to the bed for your gooseneck trailer.
