Since your 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 did not come with a factory trailer connector, you will want to install a universal wiring harness like the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector
Item # C59236. This wiring harness will splice into your vehicle's wiring. I have attached installation instructions as well as a review video for you.
To add a 7-way blade-style connector, you will want to use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # ETBC7. This kit includes a trailer connector for 7-way and 4-way connectors, as well as all of the hardware and wiring needed to install a brake controller and have a functioning 7-way connector. I have attached an installation video of the #ETBC7 kit on a 2001 Dodge Ram for you to have an idea of the installation process. I have also attached a help article on installing the kit.
If you need a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This proportional brake controller features 3 boost settings and has an easy-to-read LED display. The controller performs continuous diagnostic checks to alert you to any possible problems. You can see how the Prodigy P2 # 90885 is installed in the installation video that also features the # ETBC7 kit. I have also linked a help article on installing a brake controller from scratch.
