Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for 2016 Mazda CX-5

Question:

Hi there I need a 2 bike carrier, hitch mount style for a 2016 Mazda CX5 grand touring...yet to be purchased. the clincher is I will have a womens model bike and male. I want them to be a secure as possible of course and have the carrier be easily removable when not in use. I dont see the hitch receiver size on Mazdas site so i cant determine the carrier and womens bike adapter i probably need.. great website/videos guys.

Thanks for the compliment about our website and videos! We all work really hard to provide information to our customers that's second to none.

I'm not sure exactly what Mazda offers in the way of a factory hitch. I can tell you from experience that it'll be two to three times what an aftermarket hitch costs.

I'd recommend going with a Class III hitch like the Draw-Tite # 76138. Once installed, you'll have a hitch with the more common 2 inch receiver, which will allow you more flexibility and choices in hitch mounted accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers. When it's installed, the only portion of the hitch that will be visible from behind is the receiver opening itself. The crossbar will be concealed behind the bumper.

To carry two bikes, I really like the Kuat Beta, part # B202-2. The rack is constructed of aluminum, so it's very light at about 15 lbs. A lock, part # HL2 and a cable lock, part # e98891 are sold separately. As you can see by looking over the customer reviews for this rack, the rack is very highly rated by our customers.

For the brake frame adapter, we've found that one of the least expensive options, the Swagman # 64005 is the easiest to use.

I've linked you to a product demonstration video for the bike rack and frame adapter I've recommended.
