Installing a Brake Controller on a 2011 Ford F-150 that Does Not have a 7-Way Trailer Connector
Question:
In the video for part # 37185 that you were installing on a 2011 F150, time frame 4:20 you mentioned the dark blue wire is cut and connected to the wire going back to the 7-way connector. QUESTION: what are you using to provide trailer brake control TBC. You connected the new white wire to the blue wire, did you install a Ford Trailer Brake controller, or an after market controller. If so how did you tap into the blue wire under the dash of the truck. QUESTION: Where does the factory blue wire you spliced into go... What does it connect to? Hope this question makes sense. My 2011 F150 did not come with the tow package, so I need to run the new white wire like you did, but I am trying to determine, if I can buy and plug in a OEM Ford TBC have the truck software updated by a dealer or do you need to install an aftermarket controller like the Prodigy P2. ********** Video script ************** Video timeframe: 4:20 Now we can go ahead and take the Universal Mounting Bracket along with the provided clamp, and secure it to the hitch. Next were going to take the white wire with the pre-formed ring terminal attached, which will be our ground wire and secure it here to the frame. Well be using a self tapping screw to make that connection. Next well go ahead and take the manufacturers four-pole connection and attach it to our 4 to 7 pole connector. To secure this connection point for longevity, Im going to go ahead and take a zip tie and secure the two connectors together.

In the video showing installation of trailer connector # 37185 on a 2011 Ford F-150, linked for reference, that white wire that is spliced into the blue wire comes from the 7-Way connector and goes to the brake controller plug-in connector in the truck cab that is present even if the truck did not come with a factory tow package.
A brake controller can just plug right into the truck using the proper wiring harness. I recommend the P2 # 90885 and wiring harness # 22292. I have linked a video showing how it installs on a 2011 Ford F-150.
You could probably have the factory controller installed in your truck but it would not work as well as an aftermarket controller and it would cost much, much more. But I would verify that with a technician at your local Ford dealer.
