Where Does the Purple Wire F\or 4- to 7-Way Adapter 37185 Install on a 2010 Ford F-150

Question:

I am thinking of ordering this part in order to tow my boat with a 7 pole. My 2010 F-150 only came with a 4 pole. I think I need to have the reverse lead hooked up because when I try to back up a hill the surge brakes engage. The boat dealer says they should release when the truck is out in reverse. Where do I mount the purple wire? Also, to use the purple wire, do I also have to have the 12V leads connected as well, Im not sure what those are for.

If the trailer coupler has an electric reverse lockout on it then you will need a working reverse light circuit in the trailer connector. You will need to tap into a reverse light wire behind one of the reverse lights on your 2010 Ford F-150. I have linked a video that will help you. The vehicle in the video is different but you can use it as a guide.

On the 4 to 7-Way adapter # 37185, the purple wire is for the reverse lights. The blue wire is for electric brake output which you will not need. The black wire is for 12 volt power which you would only need if the trailer had something that required it or a battery that you wanted to maintain the charge on. The white wire is the ground and must be attached to the truck frame.
