Choosing Between Fastway e2 and Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System for 2015 Grey Wolf 26RL RV

Question:

Hello Have always trusted your info in the past so now we are going to replace our current Harbor Frt. hitch. We have a 2015 Grey Wolf 26RL 5800# dry and tow with a 2013 Dodge 1500 5.7. Trying to decide between the Fastway E2 10,000 # or the Curt Tru Trac Triunion with Sway Control. I know the Curt is a little more money, but, which In your opinon is the better sway control hitch for us ? Many Thanks

The Curt TruTrack # C17500 and the Fastway e2, part # FA92-00-1000 are very similar. Both are rated for up to 1000 lb of tongue weight or 10,000 lbs of gross trailer weight. Both are covered by a 10 year warranty. The Curt TruTrack includes the 2-5/16 inch trailer ball, while the Fastway system would use a # EQ91-00-6100 ball that's sold separately.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the TruTrack because the tilt of the ball is easier to adjust, and because its weight distributing shank has a wider range of adjustment, up to a 7-1/2 inch drop versus the maximum 1-5/8 inch drop offered by the Fastway e2.

Both systems are appropriate for a trailer that has a fully loaded tongue weight ranging from around 700-800 lbs to 1000 lbs. Before choosing a system, I'd encourage you to determine the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer. Be sure to include the weight of anything carried in cargo area or truck bed behind the rear axle in the tongue weight figure. I've linked you to FAQ article that explain more about how weight distribution systems work, as well as to an article that explains how to determine your exact trailer tongue weight.
