Weight Distribution And Sway Control Hitch For a 2022 Airstream Flying Cloud FB23 Travel Trailer

Question:

Now we have a 8900 lbs trailer with a Husky Center Line TS WDS rated between 10,000 and 12,000, lbs. Now we are planning to purchase a Airstream FLYING CLOUD FB 23 with a gross total weight of 6000 lbs, empty 4560 lbs TW from 454 to 620 lbs. Can I use my old WDS which I believe would be to stiff, or buy a new system like the Equilizer or the Curb with the proper weight figuration. What would you recommend. I have purchase in the passe with you guys and was very satisfied Thanks, PS we will receive our new trailer only next winter back order so we have lots of time to buy the proper equipment.

Helpful Expert Reply:

I would not recommend using your current Husky Center Line as it is way to heavy for your new Airstream Flying Cloud FB23. With a weight and sway hitch you really want to ensure that your tongue weight will match your trailer. Without enough weight the bars will not properly level your vehicle while also providing enough resistance for the sway control to function properly.

The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17499 will be the closest to the weight of your new Airstream. It is rated for tongue weights of 500-800lbs and a maximum trailer weight of 8,000lbs. Your Airstream will only weigh the 454lbs when it leaves the factory. After the dealer fills the propane tanks and adds the battery to the front end your camper will most likely be over the 500lbs.
