Can a Welded-On Capture Plate be Cut Off of a TrailAir M14 Pin Box

Question:

Hi, I have a Trailair Air ride M14 pin box that I was previously using with a Pullrite Superglide 5th Wheel hitch. It has a Superglide capture plate on it that looks like it has been welded on. I bought a new dodge truck with tow prep package and was not able to get a Pullrite Superglide to set low enough on the IRS frame. So I changed to a Demco Hijacker auto glide and would like to keep using the Tailair M14. Can I just cut or grind the welds that hold the super glide capture plate and use the M14 or do I need a new Trailair M14? My guess is I should be able to cut the super glide capture plate off, but Im not sure. Thanks for your help!

If you were to take a torch or grinder to the pin box you run the risk of damaging or weakening the skid plate. If you wanted to do that I would have it done by a professional welder to ensure that the skid plate is not damaged. Ideally though you would replace the TrailAir pin box with a new one, # UF35-946215.
