Troubleshooting Prodigy Brake Controller Output Voltage that Won't Exceed 4.8 on Display
Question:
With my TT hooked to my tow vehicle, my Prodigy controller will not allow an output setting higher than 4.8. I tested the input and there is 14 volts at the controller plug. Does this indicate a faulty controller?

If you tested the black power input wire to your Prodigy brake controller and found 14 volts then this tell us that the unit is getting sufficient DC power to operate. If you tested the red brake signal input wire and found 14 volts there then this tells us that the connection to your brake light switch is good and that the unit is receiving a "brakes on" signal from the vehicle. You can test the controllers output by severing the blue wire a few inches from the back of the controller (leaving enough to re-connect it) and pressing the manual override lever. With your tester on the controller's blue output wire you should detect output power. If you can adjust the power level to maximum and if you detect a 12V output then the unit is okay.
