Recommended Hitch Mounted Swinging 4-Bike Carrier For 2006 Toyota RAV4

If you have a rear-mounted spare tire on your RAV4, the clearance at the back of your vehicle may not be enough for the Yakima FullSwing 4 Bike Rack, part # Y02465. From the installation videos we have for a RAV4, the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the rear-mounted spare is 6 or 7 inches depending on the hitch.
You can take a quick measurement to see what the clearance is behind your RAV4. You will need a tape measure and a straight edge like a yardstick or a dowel. Place the straight edge vertically against the back of the spare tire, letting it extend below the trailer hitch receiver opening. Then measure from the center of the hitch pin to the straight edge. This will give you the distance you need to clear the spare tire.
The Y02465 has 6-1/2 inches of clearance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack.
I recommend the Thule Apex Swing 4 Bike Rack, part # TH9027XT. This bike rack measures 8-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the foot of the carrier. this bike rack also features the swinging action to allow full access to the rear cargo area of your RAV4.
