Question:

Would this rack work if one of the bikes is a 55lb electric bike?

The Thule DoubleTrack Pro XT Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # TH92BJ has a weight capacity of 35lbs per bike and you do not want to exceed that 'per bike' limit. Unfortunately you cannot add both 35lb capacities together to get an overall weight capacity of 70lbs as this bike rack was not designed in that manner and I do not recommend using it for a 55lb electric bike.

For your application, I would look into the Saris Freedom 2 Bike Platform Rack for Fat Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # SA4412B-FB. This is a very versatile bike rack that works with many different styles of bikes. It is made to accommodate bikes weighing up to 60lbs each and it can hold bike tires up to 5" wide, making it a great option for your 55lb electric bike(s). It grabs onto the bike frame and does not interfere with fenders or baskets.

This carrier does come with an anti-rattle hitch pin to reduce wobble and vibration, but it does not lock. I recommend adding 8' Cable Lock and Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock # SA984 which will keep your bike and bike rack locked to the hitch receiver to deter theft. I attached a couple helpful demonstration videos for you to check out.
