How to Carry a Trike on a 2007 Chevy HHR

Question:

Im new at this: What type of rack would work on my HRR to transport my 26: Meridan Tricycyle. I have no trailor hitches on the car. Also, information on having it installed. If it is easy to install my nephew could probably do it. However if it is more complicated, what kind of a service firm would be able to install it? Thank you

We do have some trike carriers that would likely work with your trike but the issue is the hitch. The trailer hitches for the 2007 Chevy HHR are all Class I hitches and the 2 carriers are designed for Class II or Class III hitches.

The only way to carry the trike would be on the roof and it requires a little creativity. You would start with a roof rack such as the Thule rack using parts # TH712100 and # TH710401. Then you would need the Yakima Boa, # Y02065. that takes care of 2 wheels but for the third you will need 1 additional wheel tray, # Y8820126, strap # Y8820111, SNARs, # Y8810135, bolt kit, # Y8880010, and knobs # Y8810041.

The front wheel will have to come off and you will have some extra spare parts but as long as the vehicle roof weight carrying capacity is high enough (consult vehicle owners manual and/or Chevy) then it could work. The center to center bar spread with this roof rack will be 36 inches so the wheelbase of the bike (center of front wheel to center of back wheels) would have to be close to that.
