Double Eye Leaf Springs and Tandem Axle Hanger Kit Recommendation for a Boat Trailer

Question:

I have an old used Escort trailer that has eye/loop springs with an equalizer. My questions is: what is the purpose of the eye/loop type spring? It does not seem to be common particularly on boat trailers. Is it possible that the previous owner had access to four of these eye/loop springs and simply substituted them for eye/eye type springs? More importantly, can I just buy 4 new eye/eye type springs to replace the loop style?

There are two common types of trailer leaf springs. The slipper springs that you normally see with higher capacities, and the double-eyed spring that you see on more standard capacity trailers.

They both work just as fine as the other when properly rated for the trailer. Due to the construction and fewer moving parts you commonly see the slipper on the higher rated setups, but not always.

You can replace your current slipper springs with double-eye springs if you wanted to, but it might be easier and make more sense to either keep your slipper springs or go with new ones to replace it since it won't require you to purchase new hangers.

The part # e54SR is a 3,500 lb axle spring that would work great for you if you have axles rated the same. For a hanger kit to go with these springs so that you could install them you would want the tandem hanger kit part # APT3.
