Hands-Free Lift Gate Not Working After Trailer Hitch Installation on a 2014 Ford Escape

I have part 87627 hitch Hands free does not work even in the the place that is shown on the diagram on 2014 escape

The instructions for trailer hitch # 75758 show the general area where the hands-free liftgate sensors should still work but it isn't exact. The area seems to be more towards the center point between the hitch receiver and exhaust pipes on either side (or even closer to the receiver than the pipe) and not exactly where the instructions indicate. We have tried it before and it worked for us.
I recently learned that Ford has placed the sensors in different places on some Escapes. If you cannot get the hands-free liftgate to work then the best option is to use trailer hitch # 75782 instead.
