Troubleshooting Running Light Circuit That's Not Active with Malone Trailer and Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

I just bought a new Malone Microsport Trailer. When hooking up the straight 4 prong plug to the jeep the only lights that worked were the flasher, the turn signals and stop lights. No running lights, side marker lights or license plate light. I had a friend bring his 2019 Dodge pickup over and when we plugged in the wiring harness all of the lights worked. Plugged back in to my jeep and the same lights were not working. Without reading the complete owners manual I started replacing wires and connectors and still the problem persists. Went back to the book and saw one sentence that referenced a possibility of needing to take the jeep to the dealer and have them basically turn on the Tow Package? Could this be the problem? I dont believe the jeep dealer here in Vancouver, Washington can handle this problem because they have not been able to help me with any other problems that Ive had. If the problem is turning on the Tow Package is this something I can do? What do you recommend and thank you.

It's not uncommon for a single trailer wiring circuit not to work but if most of the circuits are active and only one isn't it wouldn't be the issue you described of having to have a dealer turn on the tow package. If this were the case none of the trailer wiring would be active.

Since we know the problem isn't on the trailer that leaves the issue being on the tow vehicle side of the wiring. A very common reason for this is a dirty or corroded connector for that circuit which can easily be fixed by sanding the pin with sandpaper to allow the connection to be made. The other most likely problem is a fuse blown on the tow vehicle. That would be the next thing I would check. Try checking all of the trailer wiring fuses under the hood to see if you can find one that covers the running light circuit.
