Weight Distribution Recommendation for a Trailer with an 8 inch Tall Trailer Frame

Question:

Will this system work on my enclosed car trailer ? My trailer tongue is 2inch wide and 8inch tall. Would I have to use a hitch ball with a rise to prevent any interference with the trailer tongue ? Thanks

If the coupler of your trailer mounts on top of the trailer frame the dimensions of your trailer frame would not cause you to have to do anything different to install a weight distribution system.

Because you have such a tall trailer frame you would want a system that has chain hangers that attach to the top of the frame like the part # BXW1000. The height of your trailer frame would not matter since the clamps rest on top of the frame and don't need to clear underneath it.

Weight distribution systems can work great with enclosed car trailers, but the trick is to pick out the correct system.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
