How to Install an Aftermarket Brake Controller on a 2015 Chevroet Tahoe with OEM Brake Controller
Question:
I was told the P3 brake controller and 3016 pigtail wiring harness will work on my 2015 Tahoe, for use with a Titan Brake Rite electric over hydraulic actuator. The problem is that my Tahoe has the OEM brake controller already installed. How do I get around that?

That is correct, because your OEM brake controller is not compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes, the Prodigy P3 brake controller, # 90195, and the Plug-In Wiring Adapter, # 3016, will work in your 2015 Tahoe and allow you to use the Titan Disc Brake Kit with Electric-Hydraulic Actuator, # T4843800.
Since your Tahoe has the OEM brake controller installed in it there are a couple of more steps you will need to take to make sure you do not get codes on the vehicle's computers and that the new aftermarket trailer brake control will work correctly.
Start at the rear of the vehicle. You will need to sever the blue trailer brake wire just behind the OEM 7-way connector. Leave enough wire to splice a new blue wire, # 10-1-1, onto that wire. Make sure this wire is long enough to run from there under the vehicle avoiding moving parts, sharp edges and hot areas and through the firewall to the back of the aftermarket brake controller you will install.
Now find a rubber grommet under the dash that you can run the new blue wire into the cab through. If a rubber grommet is not available you may need to drill a 9/16" hole in the firewall and install a Snap Bushing Grommet, # SWC8055.
Next, install the plug in adapter, see attached photo. You will need to sever the blue wire in that harness too. Then attach the new blue wire to the end that plugs into the back of the brake controller.
Once this is done the OEM brake controller will always think that there is no trailer connected and will not cause codes to be set in the computer.
If you end up drilling through the firewall and using a snap bushing grommet, I always like to fill the hole in the center of the grommet with RTV Gasket Maker, # LT37467.
