Comparing the Yakima HoldUp and Hollywood Racks Sport Rider Bike Carriers
Question:
Hello, I was wondering if someone could point out the differences in these two racks? Especially with regard to hauling children s bikes, ground clearance, rack weight, and general ease of use. Thanks!

Right away I can tell you that the Yakima HoldUp, # Y02443-2, is going to be the superior rack. In terms of carrying smaller kids bikes you would need to use an adapter, # HRSW-ADP-2, to carry kids bikes with 16 or 18 inch tires on the Hollywood Racks SportRider, # HR1400Z.
Ground clearance is just about even and it should not be an issue for either carrier.
The HoldUp is going to be easier to use in terms of folding it up and down since it has integrated spring loaded pull pins where as the SportRider has regular pins. the pull pins are nice because they just snap into place once the component is in the proper position so you won't have to fumble around with a regular pin.
The HoldUp is heavier at 100 pounds compared to the Sport Rider which is 74 pounds.
Both carriers can be used as 2 or 4 bike carriers. The Sport Rider does cost less though and it is a well made rack. But for the features you are concerned about the HoldUp would be the way to go.
