Hydraulic Drum Brake to Electric Drum Brake Conversion for Gooseneck Trailer w/ 10,000 LB Axles

Question:

I have a gooseneck flat bed trailer with tandem dual axles. The axles are Hayes axles 10000 lb, serial no 144018. The brakes I think are vacuum/hydraulic drum brakes that will not work on my truck. I would like to convert them to electric drum brakes and stay completely away from the acuators. Can this be done to this trailer? The picture I submitted shows the line coming from the brake to a steel line that runs from each hub then up to the front of the trailer to a booster. Then from the booster it runs on the other side to an air tank. Thanks

Yes, you can convert the hydraulic drum brakes to electric drum brakes on your gooseneck trailer. I have included the link to all of our electric brake assemblies for a 10,000 lb axle. Just use the filters on the page to see if we have one that will work for you.

I do recommend replacing your hub/drum assembly as well because not all hub/drum assemblies will work with both hydraulic and electric brake assemblies. We only offer one option for a 10,000 lb axle and that is part # 8-430-5UC3. This will work for you if your bolt pattern is 8 on 6-1/2 and your bearings are as follows: inner 387A and outer 25580. This is a 12-1/4 inch x 3-3/8 inch drum so in this case you could use the Dexter Trailer Brake Assemblies, # 23-450 for left and # 23-451 for right as long as you have a 5 or 7 bolt brake mounting flange.
