Trailer Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier for Class I Trailer Hitch on a 2004 Acura TL
Question:
Hi There, I have a 2004 Acura TL and I am looking for a hitch to use with my cargo carrier. The carrier was 30 lbs but is designed for a 2 inch receiver. Is there any adaptor to all a 2 inch sleeve the cargo carrier has to step down so it can do in the 1 1/4 receiver this hitch has. In addition if an adaptor does exist will this hitch be sufficient for use with the cargo carrier with an adaptor? Thank you in advance

All of the trailer hitches for your 2004 Acura TL are Class I hitches with 1-1/4 inch receivers. There is an adapter to go from a 1-1/4 to a 2 inch, # HTAD. However, the use of an adapter reduces the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent.
So if you had hitch # 24755 it is rated for 200 pounds tongue weight. The use of the adapter reduces that down to 100 pounds. If the carrier weighs 30 pounds then you are left with just 70 pounds you could carry on your cargo carrier.
A much better idea would be to replace the 2 inch cargo carrier with one that is Class I compatible so that you do not have to use an adapter, maintain a higher capacity, and avoid putting excessive stress on the hitch and vehicle.
I recommend Curt carrier # C18110. I have included a link to a video review of this carrier for you.
