Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

The hitch was very competitively priced and it sits underneath the car and is not real visible. Installation was about $75 but can vary some based on car. I plan to use it for a bike rack. I bought a rack from Thule but the weight of the rack rests on the bumper and put dimples in the bumper. Since I didnt go far the dimples disappeared after a couple of days. Using that rack would have permanently marked the bumper. Using a hitch is painless and allows me to open the trunk with the bike rack in place.

2002 Acura RSX

Product was super easy to install. An instruction video would be helpful though. I used the 2002 Acura RSX youtube instructions to install this hitch. One side note: you don't have to discard the plastic trunk under cover, as described in the instructions. I used a dremel tool to cut 2 slots into the cover and it slides right over the hitch (as seen in the photos). This is the 2nd draw-tite hitch I have purchased and I would recommend this product to friends and family.

2008 Acura TL

This product was exactly as described and fit perfectly in my Acura TL. My only complaint is my package came without the 1/4 inch spacers required to mount the hitch. Customer service was great when I called to explain the issue but then I still had to wait another 4 business days to receive the spacers before I could complete the installation. I'm sure it was just a fluke and I was the unlucky one but it was still disappointing to open the package and discover that one of the crutial parts required for the install was missing. Once I received the missing parts and completed the install, the hitch did work great just as it should. I would definitely recommend shopping here. Great products for a great price.

2005 Acura TL

I am reviewing two things, the product and the people.

The product seems well built. Installation was straightforward and quite easy. The installation instructions call for sealing the bolt holes inside the trunk, but I decided to also seal the bolt holes on the outside. It may be overkill, buy what the heck it took a few extra minutes and I had plenty of sealant so why not?

Sales and Customer Service were outstanding. George expedited shipping for me at no charge so I got the hitch earlier than expected. Parts were missing so I called in and Katrina got me the missing parts the next day. I called late afternoon on the Friday of the Memorial Day holiday and I received the parts Saturday morning. You just can't beat that. Great job. Thank you George, Katrina and everyone at etrailer. You guys rock!

The hitch is still performing like a champ. No problems whatsoever. Thank you for your follow-up.

Arrived nice and quick! Unboxed and elected to watch their installation video on you tube rather than read the directions. Just easier. 15 minutes later I was cleaning up and my son had his bike rack on!!

It shipped quick and worked out great, for anything trailer and hitch related definitely the place I would get it.

Easy to fit. Easy to use. However it would be useful to know that it "wobbles" and that this seems to be normal. It's a shame it's not noted in the review of the item as we've been wandering around "wobbling"
other people racks since we fitted ours as a comparison. Apparently, they all wobble but are still sturdy enough.

Etrailer were very fast and the service was good so, no complaints.

It is perfectly normal for there to be wobble or play between the shank of a bike rack and the hitch itself. The same goes for cargo carriers and ball mounts. The little bit of space makes it easier to install and remove these devices, and account for varying tolerances, but there is a bit of wiggle. There are anti-rattle devices available that are designed to reduce and in some cases eliminate this rattle. Ive added links to some examples below.

Install was easy. I loved the entire setup of this. And I also love the low profile.

by:

First off, eTrailer was outstanding, from the fast shipping, great price and instructional video showing how to install it on my exact make/model. Hitch was incredibly easy to install, once I got over the fear of drilling holes in my truck that is.

I would highly recommend them, one my order I even got it several day faster than the shipping I'd paid for. Would highly recommend this compamy and this hitch

Works great and no wobbles at all. When you install and use it properly theres no wobble. I love this product.

by:

The receiver is well made, the directions were clear, and the installation is straight forward. The car had some factory applied sound dampening rubber on the outside of the spare tire well where it mated with the receiver. When this was removed, the steel underneath was unpainted. I used cold galvanizing spray to help protect this area and the ID of the drilled holes from corrosion.

bought it for my 06 Acura TL. took my only about 30 minutes to install. including getting all the tools ready. its very simple! its been a year since its been installed. still solid as a rock. i use it with a yakima 2 bike hitch. i highly recommend this trailer hitch.

2005 Acura TL

The trailer hitch was easy to install on my Acura TL (2005). The whole process took about 1 hour and that included the wiring harness that I also ordered from eTrailer. I am very pleased with the entire process from ordering to installation. I installed the trailer hitch to tow my ATV and for general light duty use. The trailer is 6X8 and weighs about 400 lbs. The ATV weighs 700 lbs. I can tow the trailer and ATV with no problems. The car handles just fine. Again, very satisifed.

2006 Acura TL

Installed it myself on my 2006 Acura TL. The instructions were detailed, and I did not had any issues following them. However, there is couple details that may make the installation easier for the next person:

1) when drilling the trunk pan, have either vacuum ready or something to pick up the metal shavings. It will save you from digging the splinters from your fingers.

2) installation is a one-person project, but it would be very helpful if you could have someone hold the top part of the trunk pan bolts with a pliers to prevent the spinning of the hardware when you do the final tightening.

3) the nuts for the hitch are 3/4. I found that I had to use deep-socked socket wrench, which I needed in order to use the torque wrench. I guess you could use just a regular wrench and just guess-estimate the tightness. They required decent torque on all of them to get it to 75 ft/tq as required.

4) If you want to apply silicone as a sealant on those bolts, wait until you tightened the trunk bolts. I havent, and with the hardware spinning it made quite a mess. Luckily the silicone was still fresh so it was an easy cleanup.

5) Not mentioned but I did it to prevent the rust on the bolts: I sprayed the exposed bolts from the bottom with a bedliner-in-a-can spray. Couple squirts and everything was coated and protected.

6) I re-installed the plastic pan. The instruction says that it must be discarded - not true - you just need to trim it so the hitch peg can fit.

Other than that, the installation was a breeze. Shipping was free (since it was order over $150), and then Etrailer upgraded my shipping FOR FREE (Thank you!), so I had everything shipped to my door on the 2nd day!

by:
2008 Acura TL

Installed on my 2008 Acura TL. Instructional videos were very helpful. I re-installed the plastic trim piece that the videos say to throw out - I made a two-inch wide rectangular cut with a Dremel to accommodate the hitch receiver. This was done for extra rust protection/prevention. Works great with the Swagman Trailhead 2 bike rack (S63360)

by:
2006 Acura TL

It fits well and is relatively easy to install. I did it in about 90 minutes on my 06 TL including cleanup so it's not too bad. The instructions are clear and watching the demo video beforehand definitely helped.

Having another person around can be handy when tightening the two trunk bolts to keep them from spinning. Also, a good way to make sure it's going on centered before drilling the holes in the trunk pan is to find something straight (i.e. yard stick or similar) to place into the hitch opening and hang it out the back. When you step away it's easier to see if you have a slight angle since judging this from beneath the car without having it jacked up is extremely hard to visualize.

I haven't towed with it yet but I have no doubts it'll do what I need it to.

2000 Honda Odyssey

Ordered two hitches.

Installation
of both hitches went well. Vehicle-specific video instructions were incredibly helpful, and the reason I shopped etrailer.com.

Weren't sure if the bolts were going to fit the Honda Odyssey, particularly because it included instructions for Ford vehicles, which take a differently threaded bolt. But the hardware seemed to match the video.

It took 45 minutes to clean out the receiving nuts on the Honda Odyssey on the frame.

The installation went as anticipated for the Acura TL (pictured).

Did not need to jack either vehicle for access, even for drilling from underneath.

Outer shipping box for larger hitch was 1/3 torn and collapsed upon receipt. UPS had taped it back together. Fortunately, hardware was wrapped to the hitch. Box for hitch pictured was moderately torn, neither hitch was not damaged.

Thanks again for the videos!

2006 Acura TL

Installation was straightforward and easy to accomplish. Took about an hour. Works will with our trailer. Also installed trailer lights from Etrailer. Again, no problems with the installation. Only reason this is not rated as excellent is we don't yet have much experience using this hitch.

by:
2006 Acura TL

The installation of the 1 1/4" Hidden Hitch Receiver and a wiring harness on my 2006 Acura TL went smoothly. If you are comfortable with a drill and a wrench, then you can finish the job of installing both of these in an hour. I could have done a little better job aligning the hitch to be perfectly perpendicular to the bumper. A few degrees off-axis won't hurt. Will it? Doh.

I immediately went to haul two mattresses and two box-springs strapped onto my light-weight 4x6 utility trailer behind the TL, drawing some stares as I flew (40mph) down the road. As long as I drive safely and pull <500 lbs, this rig satisfies my craving for a truck and I don't have to beg and borrow from a friend just to get a sheet of plywood!!!! Boo-rah!!!

2007 Lexus RX 350

Delivery was fast and free when coupled with bike rack.

Was able to do in driveway, drove rear tires on 3 inch high blocks of wood and had enought room to do install.

Toughest part of install was removing plastic pan under trunch.
Had to drill out 2 inner plastic rivets.

Drill got caught up in Pan because metal was so thin (surprisingly so). Had to use dremel to smooth and round holes.

After that it was a snap...total time 45 min.

Works great, but now I have to get my trunk and bumper fixed from the damage done by old Thule trunk rack...never again.

Etrailer kept me informed during the whole order process. The videos are great help.
A pleasure to do business with

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2005 Acura TL
For a hitch the Draw Tite part # 24755 that you referenced would be an excellent choice as we are Draw Tite fans as well. It is a Class I hitch though so your Holdup that is for a 2 inch hitch is not going to work unfortunately. Hitch adapters end up cutting the capacity of the hitch they are used on in half so they aren't the best route either. The Swagman XTC2, part # S64670 is one of the most popular Class I compatible racks because it's so easy to use, and because the rack has an...

  • Trailer Hitch and Compatible Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2008 Acura TL
Installing trailer hitch, # 24755, requires about 7 steps according to the instructions (attached below). Basically, the hitch attaches to the bottom of the trunk (trunk Pan) and to the tow hook already on your 2008 Acura TL. You will need access to the trunk and there is some drilling involved to install this hitch. When using a bike rack with this hitch, you must be sure to stay within the limits of the hitch. You will need a rack that will fit in a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening, works...

  • Trailer Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier for Class I Trailer Hitch on a 2004 Acura TL
All of the trailer hitches for your 2004 Acura TL are Class I hitches with 1-1/4 inch receivers. There is an adapter to go from a 1-1/4 to a 2 inch, # HTAD. However, the use of an adapter reduces the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. So if you had hitch # 24755 it is rated for 200 pounds tongue weight. The use of the adapter reduces that down to 100 pounds. If the carrier weighs 30 pounds then you are left with just 70 pounds you could carry on your cargo carrier. A...

To carry bikes on your 2004 Acura TL, I'd recommend going with the Draw-Tite # 24755 hitch over the Curt # 11321 model. Curt's warranty stipulates that an extra stabilizing strap # 18050 be used with non-trailer loads on their Class I hitches, and the Draw-Tite has no such stipulation. The straps can be inconvenient to use, and some vehicles just don't have a suitable attachment point for the strap.
