Experiencing a Lot of Slop in Weight Distribution System on 2012 Ford F-150 Towing Travel Trailer
Question:
I have a 2012 Ford F150 3.5 FX4 crew cab 5.5ft bed. We recently traded in our t.t. for a Rockwood Signature Ultralight t.t. Tongue weight is 1050# and total weight is 7500#. Previous trailer was 5600#. The hitch/receiver set-up is a Husky Centerline. Bulky lookin thing. The receiver and hitch 2inch square fit awfully loose in my opinion. If I lift up and down, I get about 3/4inch slop. Seems like a lot. Is there a limit or rule of thumb with this concern ? Would an aftermarket receiver perform better than OEM?

It is not uncommon for there to be some movement in the system when a trailer is not loaded. If this movement is causing rattle you try adding our Pro Series Anti-Rattle Device for 2" x 2" Trailer Hitch Receivers # PS63091. This device will take out the slop/play that you are experiencing. It inserts between the receiver and ball mount, then secures with a jam nut and adjustment bolt. Check out the video demo of this product.
Rest assured that once you get your trailer hooked up to your 2012 Ford F-150, the weight of the trailer will correct this and there won't be an issue.
