Specific Torque Spec to Follow When Installing Ultra-Fab Rotating, Hitch Mounted Skid Wheels

Question:

Is there a torque specification for the included mounting hardware? Wheels will be mounted to the trailer hitch on a 26foot Winnebago Aspect motorhome.

the installation instructions for skid wheel # UF48-979014 only say to alternate tightening each nut until all are tight. No specific torque specification is given. But the unit uses 3/8 inch nuts and for this size, coarse threads at least, using grade 5 hardware the common spec is 33 foot pounds. But I would follow the instructions and make them tight without straining or using a cheater bar.

This is a two fold answer according to my technical contact at Ultra-Fab. If you happen to be turning at the same time you are backing up then you will want to go with the caster type wheels #UF48-979011 that you referenced. I do want to mention that…

I went out into our warehouse and pulled a set of the Ultra-Fab Rotating, Hitch Mounted Skid Wheels #UF48-979014 and found that the distance from the bottom of the wheel to where the bottom plate will be is 5-3/4 inches.

You're looking at 3-3/8" from the bottom of the wheel to the top of the mounting plate on the Ultra-Fab Hitch Mounted Steel Rollers for RVs w/ 2-1/2" Hitch Tubing #UF48-979017.
