Recommended Location to Install Skid Wheels on RV with 5-Inch Square bumper

Question:

I have a 5inch square tail bumper on my rv. I would like to put skid wheels on it because my driveway comes close to hitting the 5inch bumper tubing. I think your product UF48-979011 would work...but does not make sense how it works. The wheel has a plate that mount on a plate and the bolts protrude above it all. How does this mount to the tubing? Maybe this is not for me? Regardless....I have a 5inch square tube bumper I want to mount skid wheels to. Please help. Thanks.

Generally an RV bumper is designed to take lateral force but not the vertical force it would encounter from having skid wheels installed on it. The RV frame at the rear (near the bumper) is the best place to mount skid wheels. If there is a hitch on the RV that too can be used as a mounting point.

The plate included in Ultra-Fab skid wheel kit # UF48-979011 is what the skid wheel itself attaches to after the plate is welded on, and you are correct that the bolt heads do sit on the top of the plate. The plate needs to be welded to the frame in such as position that the 4 holes for the caster wheel are accessible for it to be bolted on with the included hardware.

The linked page will show you all skid wheels we offer and you can use the filters on the page to select either frame- or hitch-mount types and either bolt-on or weld-on installation.
