Weight Capacity of Swagman XC Bike Rack Part # S64650
Question:
I really like this rack. However, my wife and I are buying bikes that are 42 lbs. The total is +4 over the rating. Can I expect this rack to cover that overage without problems ???

Expert Reply:
Although the bikes would only be 4 lbs over the stated rating of the Swagman XC, I really cannot recommend exceeding that weight limit. If you were only going to drive on perfectly smooth pavement with no possibility of ever hitting a rut or pothole, you might be all right exceeding that limit by a few pounds. When the variable of rough pavement is added, exceeding that 80 lb limit could present a problem. Having a rack fail and losing the bikes is never a fun occurrence. Not only can the rack itself and the bikes be damaged, but the receiver hitch could be damaged as well.
Might I suggest the Hollywood Racks, part # HR200Z? This rack is very similar, and offers a 90 lb capacity.
I have included some links on the bike racks for you to look at.
