Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2014 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid

Question:

Would a class II work or do you suggest a class I? I know the regular hitch is a 1.25inch X 1.25inch hitch. The other question is what would you suggest if it is for towing I.E. stay under 500 total weight with a tongue weight of 200?

I would recommend you go with a Class II hitch over a Class I hitch. The capacities will be higher and more hitch accessory options will be available. For example, with a Class I hitch you can only carry up to 2 bikes, whereas with a Class II you can carry up to 4. I attached a help article that covers the differences between hitch classes for you to check out as well.

For a hitch I would recommend the Curt Hitch part # C12091. This is a Class II hitch that would work well towing a trailer with 200 lbs of tongue weight. Be sure to check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine the towing capacities and be sure not to exceed these figures. This hitch as a 350 lb tongue weight capacity and a 3,500 lb total trailer weight capacity. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.

For a ball mount I recommend part # C45016. This ball mount has a 2-5/8 inch rise or 3-1/4 inch drop and measures 9-3/8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole.

For a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball I recommend part # 19256, and for a 2 inch ball I recommend part # 19258.

If trailer wiring is needed I recommend the Curt Custom Fit Wiring, part # C56258.
