Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a Forest River R-pod 181G

Question:

I am about to purchase a Forest River R-pod 181G with a TW 319 lbs. Base 2775 lbs. Cargo CAP 1027 lbs. I am towing it with a 2012 Nissan Frontier and wondering if the Pro Series Weight Distribution System w Friction Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW would work in this application or is this over kill?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Typically tongue weight is 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight. Your trailer when completely loaded would weight about 3,802 as it's max. This means that your tongue weight will be between 380 lbs and 570 lbs.

The weight distribution system I would recommend is the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System # RP66083 The tongue weight range for this system is 400 lbs - 800 lbs which would work well for your trailer. This system also features the only sway control system on the market designed to prevent sway before it starts.

Going with a system rated for 1,000 lbs of tongue weight would be overkill and would cause a very harsh ride.
