Is a Special Tool Required to Un-clip a Factory 7-Way Connector from the Vehicle Wiring
Question:
I have a 2005 Silverado 1500 4x4 Crew cab. It has the Factory towing package. The receptical has a short and I want to order a replacement receptical. The wiring harness on my vehicle runs forward fast the fuel tank area. So I have tried to unplug the harness from the back of the receptical without success. Do I need a special tool for this?

There is not special tool required, but these connectors can be stubborn, especially with years of road grime built up. You may be able to make things easier on yourself by removing the receptacle from the rear bumper and giving yourself some slack. You may need to use a screw-driver to pry the locking tab up far enough to get the connector to release, be careful not to break the tab. If you do break the tab, you can wrap the connection in electrical tape to hold, but it will be more difficult to replace in the future.
