Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Fit perfectly on my 2023 Honda CRV. Installation instructions could be improved a little on where one must cutout from the bottom of the bumper. Picture and instructions are not clear enough on exactly where to cut.

2021 Honda CR-V

recently purchased this hitch for my 2021 Honda CR-V. The main purpose I purchased the hitch is for a hitch mounted bike rack. The CR-V isn’t very accommodating for strap mounted bike racks. As for the installation of the hitch, I would rate it as a 7 with 10 being the most difficult. The etrailer video instructions are good and cover everything I think you should know. The video shows the installation using a car lift. I did the installation with jack stands. I would highly recommend getting the exhaust hanger tool. I did have a couple of different sizes of pry bar’s but the hangers were difficult to release. Also, aligning the CR-V mounting bolts to the hitch mount points took a bit of maneuvering. Otherwise, everything installed pretty much how the video showed it. The hitch looks good as noted in the attached pictures. Overall, I’m very happy with this hitch.

It sounds like that the side brackets were knocked out of alignment. This can happen while in transit to our facility or to you. We do have a great FAQ that provides ways to move the brackets back into alignment so the hitch can be installed.

Excellent. Definitely recommend this trailer hitch. But definitely need 2 people to install it. Recommend watching the instruction video a couple of times before installing the hitch.

2023 Honda CR-V

The instructions were pitiful. All the black and white pictures were lacking any contrast. Noting talked about the foot activated rear gate, which is on all CRV touring models. The facia has to be trimmed but so does the plastic bracket that holds the sonar for the rear gate. Need to remove the lower sensing rod before trimming. Also the plastic guard underneath had to be trimmed more than the facia. No mention of how difficult the exhaust rubber donuts are to remove.. LUBE first. Good hitch with poor paperwork..

works fine after installed

Installed this hitch for a bike rack and it works and looks great. My only complaint is that it was a little difficult to install in the Touring edition of a 2020 Honda CRV. It took some finagling but it eventually fit. The handsfree activated tailgate feature no longer works but I didn't use it much anyways.

2017 Honda CR-V

I really like this hitch for my 2017 Honda CRV. What I like most is that the cross bar sits high above the rear bumper fascia which give the installation a really nice, clean look. The cross member is not visible. The installation was fairly easy. I backed the rear wheels up on car ramps to give myself some more room to work. It helps having two people for the installation. The only somewhat tricky part is that a small rectangular section of the bumper fascia needs to be cut away so that the rest of the fascia sits down over the receiver section. The section that needs to be cut away is underneath the car so it is not visible. The hitch results in a nice, clean appearance as opposed to hitch whose cross member sits below the rear bumper. E-Trailer hadsa very good installation video.

by:

Received the item with scratches and paint rubbed off. I appreciated Etrailer offered a paint credit for the small defects.

Install is mostly the same as the 2022 (5th gen) model except you do have to trim two piece vs one piece and I did have to remove the fake exhaust trim piece to access exhaust hanger. Removing the exhaust rubber hanger is the most challenging part since I don't have the particular removal tool. Overall it's DIYable and it took me about 2 hours to complete without any previous experience.

2024 Honda CR-V

Hitch installed and set in place of the 4 frame bolts 3 lined up with lots of pushing. One hole on right side foreward was only 10 percent visible. Could not move hitch in any direction as it was hugging the wheel well(spare) and the center connection was against the tow hook as per instructions for theCRV. IF QUALITY control and test fixtures were used then this would be deemed defective at a quality manufacturer…. there were 3 of us doing the installation

It sounds to me like you had received a flexed hitch. This is actually very common and can be corrected by using a vise and bending the wings back to a 90 degree angle. Hitches are made with a flexible steel so that the hitch can flex while in use. If the hitch was made with no flex, then it could crack and compromise the hitch. I have a link below for your reference.

I purchased this for my 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid to tow a light log splitter. Honda does not advise towing with a Hybrid, but in Europe they do allow towing up to 750 lb.

Firstly, let me say that the install is a bit more difficult than on a gasoline version. There is a large plastic panel that must first be removed to access the mounting points. This panel has 9 plastic rivets, plus one 10 mm bolt that must be removed to remove the panel. Once removed, the install is the same as outlined in the videos, except the hybrid only has one muffler. The bumper must have a small section cut out as indicated in the instructions. To reinstall the large panel, a section of it has to be cut out around the hitch. Metal shears work well.

So, in summary, the install went well, but the large panel adds some additional work. I didn't see that noted in any of the other hybrid reviews, so I wanted to let others know. Once installed it looks great!

by:

I felt a little lost on what to cut. You don’t need to cut as much as the video shows. It’s more like the printed instructions but their pictures are not very good. Measuring the hitch I needed 3 1/4 inches wide cut. Used masking tape, and went off of the tow loop and drew lines from there just to be center with the car which the hitch is.

by:
2024 Honda CR-V

Great hitch. Instructions leave out significant detail regarding the exhaust hangers. 80% of the install time was spent fussing with these hangers. The other 20% was trimming the body panels, and instructions were somewhat vague. HOWEVER, the hitch itself looks very clean once installed. In the end, I'm satisfied. But I'm also an engineer with plenty of power tools at my disposal and years of experience wrenching on my cars. Better instructions would really help the average DIY person.

2020 Honda CR-V

Exceptional quality and installed as specified. Perfect fit and functional. This product exceeded all expectations. It looks like a factory install at 1/3 the cost of the Honda version.

by:
2023 Honda CR-V

Looks great and installation is almost straight forward
on 2023 CR-V EXL on the driver's side inside of the bumper there is an electric plug that restricts trail hitch to reach the bolts. My mechanic had to unpin it and use zip tie to reattach. This electric plug doesn't rotate so the only way was to move it out. You can see on the pictures:
1. Completed look
2. Right before completing
3. Before removing that electric plug
4/ After we have removed it out and reattached with zip tie

2017 Honda CR-V

Excellent fit to car frame (2017 Honda CRV Touring). Instructions were fairly good. I took extra time because I'm neurotic about "Measure twice, cut once". I had to trim a piece of the foot sensor bracket. However, the foot sensor still works without the overpriced Honda relocation kit. The sweet spots are to either side of the hitch, so I marked them on the bumper with some electrical tape.

by:

Good hitch but was far more involved putting on a 2024 CRV Touring Hybrid then depicted in the video. More parts had to be removed and then reinstalled, and the estimated 1 hour job took 3 with 2 people and having the car on a lift.

Everything was handled well and the hitch fit my brand new Honda CRV like a glove. I appreciate a good company like trailer!

Hitch works great. I could not get it to secure suggly until I noticed that the OEM wire bundle was mounted right underneath where the hitch needed to me. I assumed it wasn't going to fit until I removed the wire and wire clip (then it fit right in!)

The design of the hitch, wiring and directions were excellent. Installation time was as stated. Dropping the exhaust system on a new car was a bit of a concern but after watching the video and following the tips given it was easier than I thought.

Exact fit on my 2023 crv hybrid. Price was a lot less than the $xxx deal the dealership was going to give me.

2018 Honda CR-V

Hitch delivered yesterday as scheduled and I finished installation this morning. The video installation instructions at etrailer extremely helpful . My CRV has only one muffler, so it was that much easier. I went ahead and pretrimmed the under body panel and that I think also made the installation easier. Didn’t have a hoist, so I blocked up the rear about 4 1/2 inches and that was enough. Even had my wife helped me slip the hitch in place and hold it while I fastened the nuts without yelling at each other. Be careful when remounting the rear muffler hanger as there are some sharp edges. Probably took me more than an hour, but that included gathering tools and blocking up the vehicle.

Don’t use it often, but works fine when I do. Very happy with it

by: 12/20/2023

Perfect fit. I thought that it was slightly misaligned but realized that I needed to trim the faceia an additional 1/8” and boom!! Everything aligned. Wonderful non-gaudy tidy appearance. It took me three and one half hours, including clean up, and tools put away but considering I’m 71 and did this by myself all I can say is Great job etrailer

by:
2023 Honda CR-V

I, like everyone else wondered if this hitch would fit the new 2023 CRV. Well it fits great. Just like it did on my last CRV 2018 (installed the same). I will tell you that you do not want to start installing this by yourself (especially if you are 70). You really should have couple helpers or three or four jacks to lift this up into position. I thought about taking some pictures while installing it just too much trouble getting up and down.

by:

Bolted up nicely on the 2020 CRV Hybrid. Don't use it for trailers since the hybrid is not rated to tow but works perfectly for my bike rack that I share with my other vehicle, a Grand Cherokee. Had to trim some plastic and move the tailgate foot sensor and is tucked away nicely so it doesn't drag.

by:

Still a solid product after 1 year of use on my 2022 Honda CRV Hybrid. Mainly used for carrying bikes.

by:

Hitch was easy to install. Special Tools a Torque Wrench which I had. Work great so far.
