Matte black, powder coated steel is durable and corrosion resistant and creates a rugged look.This is my second etrailer hitch (first one is on my 2010 Ford Escape). This hitch fits perfectly on my 2023 RAV4 hybrid. The holes lined up exactly with the frame holes. No bad words were needed :) The install video was very helpful. Like some other reviewers, I did not need to lower the exhaust. I'm using it to carry a hitch hauler / basket and bike rack.
The hitch arrived in perfect condition, although the box was extremely damaged in shipping. Fortunately the bolt package was securely taped to the hitch frame so it did not fall out of the holes in the box.
The hitch itself looks and fit great on my 2024 Toyota Rav4 Prime. I did not have to lower the muffler, as one of the videos showed, but I did have to permanently remove the tow hook installed on the vehicle for the hitch to fit. I downgraded my rating to four, because of the condition the box was in when it arrived via UPS. One could easily blame UPS, but due to the many customers who have had the same problem, etrailer should look in to how the hitch is boxed in the first place, as a possible cause.
This seems to be a pretty solid hitch for the Rav4. The first hitch that etrailer sent was damaged in shipping before it got to me and was returned. The damage was obviously not etrailer's fault, but it took quite a while to get a replacement. I didn't hear anything after I saw that the damaged hitch had been returned, so I called in and spoke to an agent who was very helpful. She processed the replacement but it was a few days before it shipped. The installation was pretty straightforward, but one of the bolts that came with the hitch had no threads and I couldn't use it. The bolt is also too long to fit in the front hole on the passenger side, so I'll go get replacement from a hardware store.
Great video for installation. Removal of tow or tie down bracket (2 bolts). I didn’t have a lift like the video but I managed by hanging off the edge of my garage with 2 2x6s one under each rear wheel. Took longer than I expected but I had some difficulty getting that last bolt in. I put the two easy to get in driver side and left the two passenger side in last. Very little room to get that last one in. Would recommend buying this. Looks good and not bad for installation. I have a 24 Hybrid and tow rating of 1750 according to manual. I will not be towing but using for carrying extra cargo or bike rack.
This hitch was easier to install than I expected. I didn’t need to lift the car or lower the exhaust for installation! It can be a one person job if you can turn a wrench and have some mechanical experience. With 2 people it would be even easier to lift the hitch into place. There are only 4 bolts needed for mounting. The challenge is threading and tightening the bolts on the passenger side of the car. I highly recommend using a ratchet box end wrench. I used a box end wrench and it was a slow process to tighten the 2 bolts.
I installed it myself and lifted it into position using a small floor jack. My vehicle had pre-drilled holes, so that made inserting the bolts and tightening the nuts simple. I recommend a good torque wrench to make sure of proper tightness. I didn't need to cut or trim anything--it just fit perfectly on my 2023 Toyota RAV4. eTrailer personnel are wonderful to work with and I would highly recommend them!
Was fairly amazed that the trailer hitch reciever was not more scratched up. As parts of it was sticking out of the box! Bet UPS loves delivering these units!
The rack installed as per the etrailer video. I did take some flat black paint and hit the areas that had rubbed through the paint before installing the hitch rack.
Full year of use, trailer hitch has stood up to everything I’ve asked of it. Heavy e-bike hauling mostly, but I also pulled a car 60! Miles on a dolly. Fast and easy install, would buy again!
Installation made easier with a second set of hands and a jack used to hold the hitch up. Did not need to remove muffler hanger but it was a tight fit.
The bolts took a while to “catch”. Just make sure you thread it in by hand at least 1/4 of the way before you use tools.
Impossible to use a socket wrench on the passenger side. Recommend using a ratcheting combination wrench instead of regular one.
Quality looks great. But did arrive like it came looking like it was hit by a hurricane.
This e23ZR model does not in fit a 2024 Rav4 Hybrid. The frame rails on the 2024 Rav4 Hybrid are 3/4"-1" wider than the unit that was provided. I spoke to a representative before ordering specifically to ensure that it would fit, as I know these are heavy and a pain to return. I was assured that the e-trailer unit would fit and was made for this vehicle. Customer service recommended self adjusting the outside plates with a sledge hammer to make it fit, which didn't seem appropriate. The Curt version is en route, hopefully that will fit. For reference I maintain RV's and generators for work, so I am capable of this installation. Very disappointing experience.
Product is perfect and installed very easily on my 2024 Hybrid. No need to drop the muffler. Unfortunately the package did arrive in pretty worse for wear condition and even though the hardware was taped to the hitch, 2 of the bolts had ripped out of the bag and got lost in transit forcing me to go source some new bolts at the hardware store. Minor problem, but packaging could use some improvement.
quality as advertised. I have purchased 3 hitches for my cars over the years. The supplied videos gave me the confidence that I could install them myself. I am looking at a new car. I can order it with a hitch on it to the tune of $600. E trailer hitch it just as good and less than a third of the price. Hooking up electrical might be a greater challenge. All my installations were only for carrying a luggage basket or a bike rack.
The bolts supplied with this hitch are very poor quality. I could not get them to bite on the threads of the Toyota Frame Rail. Which led to 2 hours of me trying to get these bolts threaded into the holes. I finally got the idea to use the 2 Toyota Bolts that were the same size and were holding on a towing point that had to be removed first, before installation of hitch. The Toyota bolts went right in, no problem. Proving that the issue was the threading of the poor quality bolts that came with this hitch. I would suggest paying more for a name brand hitch, or going to Toyota and purchasing (2) additional 17mm frame bolts that hold on the rear towing point. The Toyota bolts are much better quality. The second issue I had was the hitch arrived pretty beat up and missing some paint. Etrailer did not do enough in packaging, a cardboard sleeve over the receiver could have helped to protect the paint. The hitch only had protective cardboard around the square tube, none on the receiver hitch or the wings that bolt to the frame. Etrailer customer service is amazing and their instructional install videos are the best. I really like the website and the helpful install videos, they are the best in the business. If I had it to do over, I would just buy the name brand hitch, hoping it had better hardware and packaging.
Large holes in the package due to no packaging material found. Powder coating scraped off on impact points. Not desiring installation due to possibility of more damage.

Oh my goodness! I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you. The hitch can be painted with a rust resistant paint like Rustoleum. It will help protect the hitch now and in the future.
Great product! Hint: On our 2022 RAV 4 hybrid it was easier to remove the muffler (2 bolts 14mm wrench and temp tie up exhaust pipe) to install hitch if doing it in your driveway.

This was a perfect fit for my 2021 RAV4 Prime XSE with Premium package that has the kick open hatch. You will have to take the exhaust pipes and muffler off the three rubber hangers. Don't forget to support the muffler so it doesn't hang to low and break something. The bolt on the rear passenger side is a bear. Have someone there to wiggle the hitch around or lining the bolt up to the hole is murder. I would use one of the bolts you removed from the tie down bracket for this hole because those bolts are shorter. That one bolt took 30 minutes to start threading.
The kick sensor still works after installation...big plus!
Installation was incredibly easy I did it myself in my driveway in 30 minutes.
10/10 quality item. I really loved that etrailer took the time to produce an installation video. I have used the hitch for bicycles and hauling deer in a deer carrier.

The video was a great help. Dropping the exhaust down really helped get the hitch into place without messing it up. Used a floor jack on the middle and lifted it into place. Overall the installation was easy compared to some others I've helped with. Good quality build and the included hardware worked great.
Easy to install though I needed help to lift it up to position. Fits perfectly though it's kind of lower compared to the eco hitch.
Great hitch! Easy to install, basically just four bolts. I did have to remove the factory tie-down (for transporting the new car...2023 RAV4 hybrid), but that was very easy. The hitch was shipped in a cardboard box, which was pretty beat up. But all the hardware was there and no dings or scratches on the hitch itself.
When mounting the hitch, starting bolts on the passenger side of the RAV4 2023 Hybrid was very difficult. There is just 1-2 inches between the hitch and the frame, which supports the 12V battery. Perhaps there is advice that eTrailer can provide buyers before and with the purchase.
Great product and installation video. However, there was one omission; installing the hitch receiver required permanent removal of the towing bracket. The two forward bolts installed fine, but the towing bracket kept the rear of the hitch from rotating up enough to install the two rear bolts on my 2024 RAV4 Prime SE. Not a huge problem, just unbolted the bracket and set it aside, and will rig a strap to the hitch receiver for emergency towing, if needed.
Purchased this hitch for our 2020 Rav4 awd for an upcoming road trip my parents will be having. Installation was super easy. It took me and my dad 20 minutes. Can definitely be done by yourself but a helping hand is always better. Have not actually used it yet but I’m sure it won’t disappoint.
The hitch itself is great, but like the last etrailer hitch I ordered, woefully packed in cardboard with zero padding so it arrived broken out of the box and scratched to bare metal in spots (not anywhere visible). etrailer gave me a discount to go buy some spray paint. I don't get how a company this professional can pack their bars so poorly.
Aside from that, the hitch is great quality and super easy to install. I'm not sure why anyone would spend more on the more expensive models that are not even Class III.
For the install, I dropped the exhaust like the video recommended, but it was totally unnecessary and if I had to do it over I would not do that step again. A ratcheting box wrench is also unnecessary, I finger threaded the bolts 95% of the way and after that a 19mm box wrench worked fine. But you absolutely DO need the dog bone torque adapter to torque the bolts on the passenger side (it's not cheap - cost me $19 on Amazon for a tool I will never use again). One mistake I made - there are stickers covering the bolt holes on BOTH the inside and outside of the car frame, and I accidentally removed the inside ones first which have nothing to do with the hitch installation. So now I need to go buy some new bolt cover stickers to keep moisture and crud from getting into those unused inner threads.
Easy to install, fits great is highly recommend if you need a hitch on your RAV4. Only issue I had was packaging and how it arrived on my front porch. I know the carrier probably doesn’t handle packages real well but it wasn’t packed in the box well at all. 5 stars for the product 1 star for the packaging.
